Abstract

The increase in the 2024 North Sumatra Human Development Index occurred in all dimensions, including longevity and healthy living, knowledge, and decent living standards.
  • The growth of the 2024 Human Development Index accelerated from the previous year. All dimensions that form the Human Development Index increased, especially decent living standards and knowledge.
  • In the dimension of longevity and healthy living, babies born in 2024 have a life expectancy of 73.90 years, an increase of 0.23 years compared to those born in the previous year. The data source for life expectancy at birth uses the results of the Long Form SP2020 (SP2020-LF). 
  • In the knowledge dimension, the expected length of schooling (HLS) of the population aged 7 years increased by 0.01 years compared to the previous year, from 13.48 to 13.49 years, while the average length of schooling (RLS) of the population aged 25 years and over increased by 0.11 years, from 9.82 years to 9.93 years in 2024. The HLS and RLS data sources use the March Susenas results.
  • The decent living standard dimension measured by the average real expenditure per capita per year (adjusted) increased by 411 thousand rupiah (3.72 percent) compared to the previous year. The data source for real expenditure per capita per year uses the March Susenas results.
