Abstract

  • North Sumatra's economy based on the amount of Gross Regional Domestic Product (PDRB) based on the prevailing prices for the first quarter of 2021 reached Rp. 207.00 trillion and at constant 2010 prices reached Rp. 133.67 trillion.
  • The economy of North Sumatra in the first quarter of 2021 against the first quarter of 2020 experienced a contraction of 1.85 percent (y-on-y), decreasing compared to the achievement of the first quarter of 2020 of 4.25 percent. From the production side, the highest contraction was in the Transportation and Warehousing Business Fields by 18.30 percent. From the expenditure side, the highest contraction was in the PK-LNPRT component by 5.84 percent.
  • The economy of North Sumatra in the first quarter of 2021 against the previous quarter experienced a contraction of 0.22 percent (q-to-q). From the production side, the decline was due to the contraction in most business fields. Meanwhile, from the expenditure side, the decline was due to a contraction in all components except the components of exports of goods and services.
  • The economic structure on Sumatra Island spatially in the first quarter of 2021 was dominated by several provinces including North Sumatra Province which gave the largest contribution to GRDP on the island of Sumatra by 23.65 percent, followed by Riau Province at 22.80 percent, South Sumatra Province at 13 , 32 percent, and Lampung Province at 10.10 percent. Meanwhile, Bengkulu Province and Bangka Belitung Province have made the lowest contribution.
